“How should Democratic Party activist pursue the progressive agenda in the age of Obama”

Hey all, passing this on and inviting you as I will be one of the panelists talking about blogging and how bloggers have laid the foundation for the progressive movement we’ve seen reemerge after 2004 that enabled the Democrats to take back the Congress in 2006, and enabled Obama to win in 2008.  Right now just three people listed on the panel, but there is a fourth one possible.

The Davis Democratic Club will be hosting a round-table discussion on March 19.

“How should Democratic Party activist pursue the progressive agenda in the age of Obama”

This is one of our general membership and potluck meetings to be held at the Public Library on 14th Street in the Blanford Room. We open: 6:00 PM , dinner begins at 6:30PM and the program at 7pm.

Please bring your favorite dish with enough to feed 4-6 people.  The suggest
breakdown of bringing a dish is:

A-G Salad
H-O Dessert
P-Z Main Course

Today we know that just because a clear majority of Democrats may support certain issues, enacting those issues remain problematical.  Many of us remember the last time Democrats gained the reigns of power and how important the issue of reforming national health care was to the 1992 presidential election.  However, in spite of that apparent mandate, the insurance companies successfully defeated Clinton’s efforts to pursue reform. Today many of us see another mandate around Obama’s election to pursue a progressive agenda. The question on how we should proceed will be the topic of our round table discussion.  The discussion will cover both tactical questions such as what tools do we have in our struggle as well as which issues need to be pursued.

The panel will consist of the following:

Sara Rogers is a health policy consultant to Senator Mark Leno of San
Francisco and Marin County.  Ms. Rogers has worked in Sacramento for the last
eight years, and worked on single payer health care legislation and other progressive health care issues for 6 years.

Ryan Loney was a director of the Obama presidential campaign for Northern California and will describe the conversion of the campaign into an organization that will mobilize supporters behind issues important to President Obama.

David Greenwald is a local blogger who will describe to us how this relatively new tool can play an essential role in advancing progressive issues.

    David,

I’ll be working to around 6 in Sacramento. I just wanted some clarification on the schedule. The doors open at 6, we start eating at 6:30 and the panel doesn’t begin until 7, right? I’ll be let and just want to know what I’ll be missing

  2. Socialist is more like it....

Today many of us see another mandate around Obama’s election to pursue a progressive agenda.

Obama wants to takeover the banks, health care, and auto industry. I think “socialist” is a more accurate description.
