VCAC webinar Jan. 13: Choosing Power for Davis

Hosted by Valley Climate Action Center, Integrated Resources Network and Municipal Sustainability Forum

Join us live for a webinar on Tuesday, January 13th at 11 AM PT To hear Gerald Braun, Integrated Resources Network

Davis, California is a small city west of Sacramento in California’s central valley. Mr. Braun’s presentation covers recent renewable energy deployment planning for Davis. The city’s population and housing statistics energy profile, and electricity statistics are summarized, along with the Davis FREE research project sponsored by the city, the Valley Climate Action Center and the California Energy Commission. Energy service options for Davis include for-profit utility service (current) establishing a municipal utility or joining/creating a community choice energy agency. Energy usage, energy supply and the supply usage balance have been modeled for three scenarios corresponding to the three service options. Scenario-specific models account for building energy usage, transportation energy usage and local solar, wind and clean vehicle deployment over a 20 year period from 2015 to 2035. Strategies to address monthly and daily usage and supply variability are evaluated quantitatively to determine electricity imports and/or exports in the three scenarios. Cost implications and carbon footprint outcomes for the three scenarios are also evaluated. The work presented speaks to a growing need for local jurisdictions to actively engage to influence and shape their energy futures according to locally specific planning information.

Topics Covered include:

Local Energy Usage Modeling and Forecasting

Local Carbon Footprint Reduction Strategies

Impacts of Emerging Vehicle Fueling Options on Local Energy Supply

Enabling Maximum Local Solar Energy Production

Strategies to Accommodate Electricity Usage and Renewable Supply Variability

Economic and Resiliency Benefits of Local Energy Supply
