Joe DiNunzio Becomes Second Candidate for Davis School Board

(From Press Release) – Long time Davis resident Joe DiNunzio has declared his candidacy for the Davis School Board on the November 2018 ballot.

“There is no bigger responsibility or priority for the current generation than to provide for the education and well-being of the next one,” DiNunzio said. “Our school district is a vital ecosystem with many constituencies to consider – students and their families, teachers and staff, and community members. To thrive as a whole, we need to be mindful of everyone’s needs and contributions.”

DiNunzio and his wife Dr. Liz Stelow (DVM) are parents of Willett Elementary sixth grade twins. In addition to his current position as the President of the Davis Schools Foundation, DiNunzio also serves as President of the Willett Elementary School Site Council, Second Vice-Chair and Board Member at the Davis Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the DJUSD Technology Advisory and Strategic Planning Committees.  Active as an AYSO coach, he has coached 12U girls and boys. Previously he served as the Willett PTA President, Treasurer and Board Member for Davis Parent Nursery School, and Co-Chair of the 2016 Measure H Parcel Tax.

After graduating from Harvard University with an undergraduate degree in psychology, DiNunzio attended Stanford University, obtaining his MBA. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management, where he directs the MBA capstone Integrated Management Project course and speaks and mentors at the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

“I have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to provide support and guidance to students who are eager to develop their skills and capabilities” DiNunzio said.  “As an educator, there is no greater satisfaction than to see students grow to their potential as leaders and people.”

In addition to his work at the graduate business school, DiNunzio co-founded and serves as Director of Davis Roots, a non-profit start-up business accelerator, which supports and advises Davis entrepreneurs. As President of Fido Management, a strategic consulting firm, DiNunzio works with large global clients such as Mars, Disney, The Gates Foundation, and The Educational Testing Service, as well as early stage companies such as Evolve Biosystems, Kvantum, and Harebrained Schemes.

“I have spent most of my adult life helping to develop and implement business strategy in both large and small organizations” DiNunzio said.  “Casting the right people in the right roles – and addressing the key challenges head on – are critical to building an enterprise that delivers on its mission and promise.”

Going forward, DiNunzio believes the school district faces opportunities and challenges. “We need to look carefully at safety, the opportunity gap, and how we promote a lifelong love of learning,” DiNunzio said. “At the same time, we must push ourselves to consider new and innovative ways to engage, educate, and inspire our students. I’m looking forward to spending the summer talking with community members and listening to their concerns and desires for the future of our schools.”

It will be interesting to see whether Adams or Archer run again. Adams has been “checked out” for at least the past two years so it would surprise me if he ran. Archer likely will though she has the same opposition as Susan did without the number of friends Susan had.

Any board majority that can direct Bowes to circulate his comments electronically rather than his current droning monotone will be an upgrade.
