The Marshall Project reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has increased the use of solitary confinement in detention centers under the Trump administration, causing severe psychological harm to thousands of immigrants, with one mother of three from Mexico being held in a windowless isolation cell with a broken toilet for almost two months.

DeSantis to Open Second Immigration Detention Facility in Florida

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced the opening of a second immigration detention facility, dubbed “Deportation Depot,” at the Baker Correctional Institution to hold up to 2,000 detainees, while a federal judge considers the future of the state’s controversial holding center for immigrants at the Everglades airstrip known as “Alligator Alcatraz.”
