On Wednesday, February 15th at 7 pm at the Davis Veterans Memorial Theater, IndivisibleYolo will have its first general public meeting. The meeting will give participants the opportunity to learn specific skills for working strategically with Indivisible YOLO to maintain democracy.
Progressives in Yolo County have joined together to form a local chapter of the national Indivisible Movement. In the days after Trump’s election last November, the Indivisible Movement grew from a Google Document generated by former Democratic Congressional staffers. The document, now known as the Indivisible Guide, lifted strategies used by the Tea Party to successfully block Obama’s agenda and set forth how these same tactics can now be used by progressives whose aim is preserving a diverse, inclusive, and fair society under the new administration. As the Indivisible Guide circulated to millions nationwide, thousands of jurisdictions started local groups to carry out its recommended actions.
IndivisibleYolo is currently composed of a steering committee of about 30 men and women dedicated to stopping the xenophobic and dangerous Trump administration. Through social media and word of mouth, IndivisibleYolo partnered with moveon.org to rally almost 200 consituents in front of Congressman John Garamendi’s office last Tuesday, January 31st. Demonstrators voiced their concern over the new administration’s executive orders banning refugees, a potential repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and attacks on science. From Washington, D.C. Congressman Garamendi addressed through a phone call arranged by staffers. On February 4, our sister organization, IndivisibleRoseville organized enough turnout at a town hall meeting for Representative Tom McClintock that national press covered the event.
On Wednesday, February 15th at 7 pm at the Davis Veterans Memorial Theater, IndivisibleYolo will have its first general public meeting. The meeting will give participants the opportunity to learn specific skills for working strategically with Indivisible YOLO to maintain democracy. We hope to engage and recruit progressives across Yolo County in an effort to uphold the democratic institutions and free ideals that have supported America for hundreds of years.
