Please join me in voting for Cecilia Escamilla Greenwald for Los Rios Community College Trustee for Area 4. Cecilia is a longtime public servant who understands the needs of diverse individuals and the key role our community colleges play in ensuring access to higher education and the American Dream. Today, when the cost of attending UC and CSU is out of reach for many, community college offers a vital pathway that can make dreams come true.
As actor Tom Hanks has movingly written, his teachers and classes in public speaking and drama at community college in Hayward enabled him to dream of a life in movies. “Community College made me who I am,” he said.
Community colleges help students fulfill degree requirements and prepare students for the workforce. Cecilia has committed to address the achievement gap and increase graduation and transfer rates. She will work to maintain tuition costs and create pathways with high schools. Cecilia will work with local school boards and administrators to improve the transition from high school to community college for those wishing to offset the costs of college or pursue a vocational training certificate.
No one will work harder to ensure access to quality education for all than Cecilia. The mother of three young children, Cecilia has been serving our community since she graduated from UC Davis, as chair of the Human Relations Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission, as an advisor to the Yolo County Board of Education on Head Start, and as a volunteer mom coaching softball and soccer. She is brilliant, kind, compassionate, and genuinely committed to public service to help each person reach her full potential. We need Cecilia’s vision and energy for our youth. Let’s elect Cecilia to the Los Rios Community College Board!
